THE
WHY

Youth in Cameroon make up about 60% of the country’s population. Despite the demographic advantage, young people continue to face numerous challenges, compromising their socio-economic potentials.

Some of these challenges include lack of access to basic social security services, under representation of youth in decision-making processes and unemployment and disproportionate poverty.

All these challenges have led young people to be vulnerable and created an enabling environment for engaging in various criminal offenses such as: drug abuse, prostitution, gun violence, engaging in fraudulent activities and making uninformed health choices.

These young people grow up surrounded by mixed messages about life, sex, adolescent pregnancy, drug use, and alcohol abuse.

At Youth Force, we believe that life skills, economic empowerment and movement building helps adolescents translate knowledge, attitudes and values into healthy behaviors such as acquiring the ability to reduce special health risk, by adopting healthy behaviors that improve their life in general, as well as making smart economic choices which will go a long way to empower them and their families.

It is for this reason that our work tilted towards life skills, economic empowerment and movement building to tap into the untapped potential which needs to be explored given the right guidance and support.

One of the ways to aid young people thrive and live up to their full potential is by empowering them with life skills which will in turn help them make informed choices that will help them stay resilient and provide for themselves and their families without necessarily waiting on the government to provide these things.

It is for these reasons that we are and are still committed to working with adolescents and youth.
