Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS

Young people between the ages of 10 – 25, face sexual and reproductive health issues and the decisions they make pertaining to their sexual and reproductive health today will affect them and their communities tomorrow. 

A high percentage of new STI and HIV/AIDS infections in the world are by and from young people.

This prompts young people to carry out abortions clandestinely and most often they get trapped in post abortion complications, over 50% of maternal mortality amongst adolescents and youth is as a result of unsafe abortion.

At YouthFORCE we are concerned about young people’s sexual and reproductive health and we are intentional in providing specific interventions to early adolescents, late adolescents and post adolescents.

The main causes of young peoples’ sexual and reproductive health issues are lack of/inadequate knowledge, stigma, sexual assault, cultural and religious barriers, criminalization of abortion est. .

We are more interested in tackling the problem by addressing the root causes through education, capacity building, advocacy, information, Education and Counseling, hospital referral, values clarification and attitude transformation through our ‘Parents as Partners’ program which builds the capacity of parents, religious and traditional leaders with knowledge on how to engage their children in conversation around their sexual and reproductive health.
